Besides our focus on alternative fuels for trucks, we are also focusing on modal shift to achieve our sustainability targets. We successfully launched barge usage in the port areas of Rotterdam and Antwerp. This was aimed at reducing the number of trucking movements in these congested ports. Together with our customers, we managed to switch lanes from road to intermodal.

We completed a pilot with the first electric truck for transporting liquid chemicals (non-ADR).
The pilot was a successful learning trajectory together with our pilot partners Huntsman and Port of Rotterdam. This led to us purchasing our first fully electric truck in 2022, which became operational in February 2023.

At the logistics service centre for Shell Pernis (LSC 3247), we implemented 100% HVO (sustainable diesel), giving  a 90% carbon reduction on this entire operation.

A project was undertaken with SHEQ, IT, Business Process team and the Business Unit to utilise the order data information for the calculation of Green House Gas emissions data. These calculations used the GLEC* framework and industry recognised platform of EcoTransIT.

Within Gas Logistics, new lightweight trailers were delivered with an even higher payload than projected. We also received six new LNG** trucks which – in combination with lightweight trailers – contribute to lower carbon emissions.
